What the 2024 Election Taught Me

Throughout my exploration of the 2024 election, I have gained a deeper understanding of the critical issues facing Americans today and how these issues are represented in the media. The election has highlighted debates over economic policy, foreign relations, and social issues, all of which will have lasting impacts on our country. Understanding how media outlets report on these issues and present the candidates has been an eye-opening experience, revealing American journalism's strengths and weaknesses.

The two candidates in this election represent contrasting visions for America. One candidate emphasizes maintaining a robust national defense and supporting economic policies that benefit large-scale industries, while the other focuses on social equity, climate initiatives, and healthcare reform. 

Different media outlets have highlighted these policy stances in various ways, often aligning their presentations with their target audiences’ views. For instance, some conservative media may emphasize the importance of the U.S. economy and stability in foreign policy. In contrast, liberal publications often cover social and environmental issues in greater detail.

Media portrayals of each candidate’s character and capabilities have also varied sharply. In conservative-leaning publications, one candidate is often celebrated for their leadership experience and patriotic stance. At the same time, liberal outlets are more likely to critique that same candidate’s policies on social justice and their personal life. 

Conversely, liberal-leaning media tend to favor the other candidate’s empathy and progressivism, portraying them as a symbol of overcoming challenges. In contrast, conservative media sometimes question their competency in economic and international matters.

Through this election, I have also realized how critical Israel is, both for America and for Jews worldwide. The surge in violent protests and attacks against Jews this past year has been unsettling, with many people even comparing the situation to events before the Holocaust. 

However, I am confident that history will not repeat itself similarly. Unlike then, Israel now exists as a haven for Jews globally—a robust and resilient homeland that stands firm against any threat to Jewish security.

This deeper understanding has made me value a presidential candidate’s stance on Israel more than I might have previously. Israel is essential not only for the Jewish community but also as a vital ally for America’s success.

As the most powerful democracy in the Middle East, Israel stands on the front lines against shared adversaries like Iran and serves as an intelligence powerhouse. Its intelligence capabilities are invaluable to the U.S., providing crucial insights contributing to America’s security and strategic interests.

Now, I am increasingly attentive to each candidate’s foreign policy stance, especially concerning Israel, as these positions profoundly impact the safety and dignity of democracy. The way each candidate approaches support for Israel can influence not only the stability of the Middle East but also the resilience of democratic values worldwide, highlighting how interconnected these foreign policy decisions are with America’s role as a global leader. 

The 2024 election has highlighted that the actual threat to global democracy lies in insufficient national support for Israel during this period of war and instability. The United States must take all necessary measures to protect and support Israel, as Israel’s success directly contributes to the success of the United States.

Overall, this election has shown me the power of media in shaping public perception and the importance of critical thinking when consuming news. By understanding the biases and focal points of different media sources, I have analyzed the election more rationally and gained insights into the broader challenges facing Americans. This awareness will continue to shape how I approach political issues, ensuring that I consider multiple perspectives to understand the complex realities behind the headlines.

Looking ahead, I feel empowered to engage with these critical issues, knowing that our nation’s strength relies on informed citizens and leaders who uphold our values. The 2024 election has highlighted the importance of unity, resilience, and action. Now more than ever, we must support allies like Israel and protect the democratic ideals that define us. Through my exploration, I’ve realized that every decision the United States makes today shapes the future we will live in—a future where freedom, security, and respect for all must remain for the prosperity of our nation.
